Once upon a time I was trying to explain to some girls about team sports. "It's a soap opera. Think of it as a big silly soap opera, just a bunch of characters with long story lines, that play this goofy game out each week against each other, to make big money. Its a soap opera for guys. When you look at it in this light, it will make sense to you." These girls took it to heart, and reported back that in those terms, it did finally make sense to them.

But of course my boyfriend at the time was totally freaked. "How dare you say that sports is a mere soap opera!" He didn't get it, the putz.
