Satanosphere to Interview Anthrax (er, Artists Formerly Known as Anthrax)!

Satanosphere

In the tradition of great Satanosphere interviews (Gene Ray, Church of Satan), we're turning things up a notch.

Our very own Paul Shrug has secured for us an interview with John from Anthrax (er, Artists Formerly Known as Anthrax). As always with a Satanosphere interview, you get to ask the questions. Use the comments below to post questions that you've always wanted to ask, and from them we'll pick the best. Be creative, because this is going to be fun.

We're so bad, we should be in detention.

Some questions for the band... (none / 0) (#1)

Were you aware of the Satanosphere poll about your name change? If so, were you considering using any of the poll's chioces as your future name?

Will the change of name be part of a change in over-all music style, or will you remain similar musically?

How did you choose the name name "Anthrax" in the first place?

Have you ever played a gig in Olympia? And would you consider playing at a small club (about 300 max capacity) like Thekla?

EDITORIAL COMMENT: I know the above is a local reference, but I'd really like to see them play here. (I hope submitting multiple questions isn't bad form.)

Wouldn't be way cooler to interview Scott Ian? You could ask him about his cheesy hosting duties on VH1. That would be cool!!!!!

Anthrax, why don't you change your name?

And what posessed you to try to capitalize on the recent unpleasantness with the anthrax spores in our mail by naming yourselves "Anthrax" in the first place? What, was "Collapsing million ton skyscraper" already taken? Didn't like the sound of "Al Queda"?

Back to England with you, you disrespectful glory hounds! Write some decent music and quit trying to gain cheap and quick noteriety by piggybacking on tragedy!

I say no one should even mention this band's name, or give them any attention at all. Not until they donate every red cent of US money they have made off their cheesy gimmick!

but, if you are serious. You should know a few things 1)Anthrax, the band, have been around for nearly 20 years. 2)They are from America. 3)While beloved by many, have not made any money in years.

...you're going to pose questions regarding the band's supposed name change, how they feel about the threats the US post is suffering, baskets of puppies, NYC 9/11, Bin Laiden... anything along these lines. Truth be told, who the fuck cares?

Moreover, people please read the band's FAQs (at their own web site, and also on rollingstone.com) before thinking you've got an original perceptive question.

Especially lately, these boys have most likely heard all there is to hear. Perhaps Satanosphere could give them an interview to be feared?

Well, I'm not really inclined to ask John too many questions about the 9/11 fallout aside from the name change, to tell you the truth. But that has been newsworthy and it's inevitable that it'll come up. But Anthrax has always been one of the conscientious metal bands, so I think asking them certain questions about social policy and whatnot isn't inappropriate. However, those questions tend to bore me as well, so I would encourage, as Matt did, creativity in coming up with questions. I am so not a metal guy, so I'm gonna have to do some research in advance of the event.

Hey, kids, don't forget -- Armored Saint questions are fine, too! Whee!

Truth be told, we'd interview them even if there was no Sep 11 Horror. I grew up listening to them, got beat up for it, too. Any cool metal band from the 80's is up for a Satanosphere interview. That's where we got the name for the site, anyway; from the name of a song from the greatest metal band of all time: Pudenda.

"Perhaps Satanosphere could give them an interview to be feared? " Of course! You can't spell "Satanosphere" without "fear!"

Don't worry, it's mostly going to be about them as a band, where they're going, stuff like that. Besides, that's why we let you guys make up the questions; so that it's not a current-events jack off. So let's hear some more!

Are you boys constructed out of high grade anthrax? Is your attack lethal? Is it a health hazard to go to your concerts? I truly don't know much about the composition of your group.

is the current anthrax scare really just a marketing promotion gone horribly horribly wrong?

do new bands like kittie or slipnot still kick ass or is just fake bandwagon rock?

who'd win in a fight? anthrax or metallica?

on to armored saints...i've just recently heard the new revelation album.

what made you decide to get back together with the boys again?

is the entire sandoval family made up of metal bad asses, or are gonzo and phil just freaks?

a long long time ago (1984), in a galaxy far away (southern california), there once was a race of super human beings, identified only by their long, shaggy manes, overtypical use of spandex, and their love of hard, fast guitar riffs. the wind still carries their names through the trees. if you listen closely, you can hear it..."heshers....heshers.."

don't you think Metal Church got a raw deal regarding their career? Those guys' totally kicked ASS dude!! And now they're basically an unknown. Did you ever tour with them?

How many requests have you received from fans begging that you don't change the name?

Obviously, you guys' would never condone violence, really, so what's your take on the Black Metal rivalries in Scandinavia?

My friend Boogerface wants to know if you have any idea how you would have reacted to these events back in the 80's, when you guys' were headlining 20,000 person events? Would you have changed the name back then?

paul's interviewing john bush who didn't actually join the band until like '92-'93. it's a good question, but is he the right guy to ask that question to? i dunno. just wanted to throw it out there.

A lot of the b-sides and one-off songs (from soundtracks, etc,) are kinda hard to find, any chance we'll get another "killer b's" record anytime soon? Also, what about releasing the stuff that's hard to find (like volume 8, or the b-sides or some live stuff with john singing joey-era songs) via the website (in like limited editions or small runs of 1000 or something.)

out of all the metal acts out there, who would you like to work with more?

does the band feel responsible for the "nu-metal/rap" hybrid music crap that's out there now? do you like that stuff or hate it?
