My fascination with "incredibly strange music" notwithstanding, I've never been a huge fan of Dr. Demento-style novelty/comedy music -- i.e. "Dead Puppies," "Fish Heads" -- since none of it's really that funny, or especially clever.
I've finally found a comedy music concept I can wholeheartedly support: While innocently searching the net Friday night for songs for Shrug Festival, I came upon Beatallica -- Beatles songs, slightly revised lyrically, done in the style of Metallica.
Trust me -- it's funnier than it sounds. You'll need an MP3 player.

| First off, you will never hear a more dead-on impression of James Hetfield. Second of all, the songs are retooled to reflect those classic Metallica themes of isolation, paranoia, brainwashing, suppression of free thought, and general global misanthropy.
Sample lyric from my favorite, "Everybody's Got a Ticket to Ride Except for Me and My Lightning":
I think I'm gonna be dead, I think it's today
Electric wires pinned to my head, I'm frying away
I've got a ticket to ride
I've got a ticket to ri-yi-yide
I've got a ticket to ride the lightning, yeah!
Also suggested: "Sgt. Hetfield's Motorbreath Pub Band" and "And Justice for All My Loving" ("Close your eyes and I’ll kiss you/ The hammer crushes you/ Justice is seeking no truth"). |
