Dee Dee Ramone Found Dead

Death
By Paul Shrug, Section News

Less than 14 months after Joey Ramone died of lymphoma, bassist and principal Ramones songwriter Dee Dee Ramone was found dead last night in Hollywood. Preliminary indications suggest an overdose of an unidentified drug.

Not much needs to be said about how important the Ramones were. If you don't know, go here.

In addition to being the bassist for one of the five or six most influential bands in the history of rock music, Dee Dee wrote two books based on his experience -- the semi-fictional "Chelsea Hotel" and the autobiography "Lobotomy: Surviving the Ramones," which ironically chronicled his efforts to escape drug dependency. He also wrote comic books and performed as a rap artist for a short while under the name Dee Dee King.

His website -- which at press time had not been updated -- contains information about his various fields of interests.

A group of friends an I wanted to revamp the Easter holiday last year, when Joey Ramone died, but never got around to it. Now that two of the founding members are dead, it kinda seems pointless to celebrate the life of the first to go at all. What I mean is that we would now be celebrating the cumulative death of Thee Ramones.

I heard about Joey Ramones death in the middle of lunch at Eileen's. I'm not ashamed to say that I cried right into my $3.95 veggie burger. The only other celebrity's death that affected me that way was Dusty Springfield's. What made Joey's passing that much worse was that I had just missed him at CBGB's (with Ronnie Spector! What a show to miss!) a few months before. Like and idiot, I showed up on the wrong day. Oh my heart! Good thing I'm wearing black already.

Dee Dee died on my birthday...that's depressing. It's true that junk sucks and it's stupid to dabble with it. It's amazing the guy made it this long, really. I cried when Joey died. I didn't cry for Dee Dee but there's still there's hollow feeling. Man, they were a great, great band.
One...Two...Three...Four...Dee Dee's not with us anymore.
I wear my new flame insignia Chuck Taylor's in his memory.
