Less than 14 months after Joey Ramone died of lymphoma, bassist and principal Ramones songwriter Dee Dee Ramone was found dead last night in Hollywood. Preliminary indications suggest an overdose of an unidentified drug.

| Not much needs to be said about how important the Ramones were. If you don't know, go here.
In addition to being the bassist for one of the five or six most influential bands in the history of rock music, Dee Dee wrote two books based on his experience -- the semi-fictional "Chelsea Hotel" and the autobiography "Lobotomy: Surviving the Ramones," which ironically chronicled his efforts to escape drug dependency. He also wrote comic books and performed as a rap artist for a short while under the name Dee Dee King.
His website -- which at press time had not been updated -- contains information about his various fields of interests. |
